Tiger Brand Solid Pack Sliced Apples
The apple industry has a long history in Tasmania, and library collections preserve numerous apple (and other fruit) case labels, many of which have been digitised. These labels were originally affixed to the wooden crates used to export fruit, serving both as identification and a marketing tool. Using striking and vibrant imagery, they helped distinguish growers and appealed to consumers around the world.

Ephemeral by nature, relatively few examples have survived. Today, those that remain are highly sought after by collectors and stand as a vivid reminder of a different era in printing and design. This example was printed by Cox Kay for J. Sheppard and Sons, whose apples were grown in Ranelagh and Glen Huon.
