Power up your digital skills for free at your local library during Get Online Week

Media Release
12 October 2023

Get Online Week from 16 to 22 October is the perfect time to build your digital skills. Get savvy with your device by learning one-to-one, with a group, or joining a drop-in session at Libraries Tasmania.

Digital literacy is as essential as reading and writing. So much information we need for daily life is now only available online.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to use computers while at school or work, then getting online to access this information can seem daunting. The good news is that it needn’t be. Where do you go to learn? The answer is your local library.

“Online skills can enrich our lives, giving access to information and connecting us with each other. Whether it is finding events in your local community, talking to family and friends on social media, or perhaps learning something new in an online course. Getting online can open a whole new world,” said Sue McKerracher, Executive Director Libraries Tasmania.

“More than 250 Libraries Tasmania staff members are trained digital mentors. Many volunteers are also available to assist learners of all abilities.

There are practical sessions that can assist with buying and selling online, accessing apps, internet banking, online safety, creating digital content, and more.”

Through its network of 45 public libraries across the state, Libraries Tasmania provides free Wi-Fi and access to technology, as well as help for everyone keen to get to grips with digital technology.

For those in the south of the State a ‘Your Library Online’ digital kiosk will be touring to Glenorchy, Kingston, Hobart, Rosny, New Norfolk, Bridgewater, Sorell and Huonville libraries during Get Online Week.

There will be digital skills sessions, displays and special events all around the State.

Find ‘Get Online Week’ events near you. Get help to get online and navigate the digital world with Libraries Tasmania – get online with confidence.
